Wallasey Sea Cadets offers youngsters ages 12-18 a way of experiencing activities whilst gaining qualifications which many young people from other areas take for granted. Of the young people who attend, some have either learning or behavioural problems, come from deprived backgrounds, are disadvantaged or referred from outside agencies. Funding was used towards the cost of sending 12 cadets on a week’s Offshore Training course aboard the TS John Jerwood ship. Over the course of the week the young people completed various tasks involving seamanship, cooking, navigation, chart work and engineering. These trips give the cadets more confidence as well as enhancing their training in a practical way.
